Crop Research Station
Innovating in seed multiplication, soil health, and sustainable agronomy.
Advancing Sahelian Agronomy & Cash Crops
The FUAZ Crop Research Station serves as the university's primary engine for agricultural innovation. Located on the eastern edge of the main campus, the station manages over 50 hectares of experimental fields, cash crop orchards (Mango & Cashew plantations), and dedicated biotechnology laboratories.
Horticulture & Cash Crop Research (Mango & Cashew)
Core Research Areas
Seed Multiplication
Developing high-yield, drought-tolerant seeds for local farmers, focused on Sorghum, Millet, and Maize.
Soil Science
Researching organic soil amendments and carbon sequestration techniques for degraded Sahelian lands.
Phytopathology
Identifying and controlling pest and disease outbreaks in major staple crops across Northwest Nigeria.
Facilities & Equipment
The station is equipped with modern seed processing units, automated irrigation test-beds, and a specialized "Climate Chamber" for simulation of extreme weather conditions on crop growth.
Extension Services
Beyond laboratory research, the station hosts monthly "Farmer Field Days," where local agriculturists are invited to observe successful trials and receive training on implementing these new techniques in their own fields.
